Web 2.0 – A Giant Leap of the World Wide Web towards the Apotheosis of Development

The World Wide Web has turned over a new leaf with the introduction of Web 2.0 in the field of web design and development. With the application of Web 2.0, web design and development technology has become sharper-edged and sophisticated. In the age of Web 2.0, the World Wide Web has taken a leap towards the apotheosis of development from creative, communicative and functional perspectives. Many wonder at what Web 2.0 is and why there is so much buzz about it. So, here am I with an overview of Web 2.0 for my not-so-tech-savvy friends whose knowledge is not updated with news on the latest innovations of technology –

The term “Web 2.0” refers to the second generation of web design and development that is advanced enough to facilitate a myriad of simultaneous activities like information sharing, communication, collaboration and interoperability on the World Wide Web. It is not only software but also a set of internet tools. Moreover, Web 2.0 is a high-tech tool to integrate the components of web based system and ensure an enhanced interaction among them. The application of Web 2.0 has led to the evolution of web-based communities, services and applications like social media sites, professional networking sites, social bookmarking sites, photo & video sharing sites, blogging sites, wikis and content management system.

Web 2.0 features a continually evolving technological infrastructure that comprises of server-software, messaging-protocols, content-syndication, high-paced browsers with a number of plugins and extensions. The Web 2.0 based sites are highly interactive, functional, creative and user friendly. Web 2.0 has crept into both private and public sectors of technology. Web 2.0 initiatives have been put into application for developing more advanced interaction methodologies that are already in use on such online platforms as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. After all, technological advancements are aimed at enhancing the user experience more and more.

Websites that are designed and developed with approaches to Web 2.0 are rich in features like user-friendly interface, smooth navigation, editable content, huge information-storage, increased uploading capacity and enhanced loading efficiency. Such sites allow users to update profiles and upload photos. Users can exercise their control to modify, add, share and edit webpage content of these sites. Web 2.0 implies a lot in terms of importance when it comes to internet marketing, social networking, online business and web developing activities.
